Dead Man Walking is book 6 in the Fallen Men series. It follows Bea and Priest who we have met previously in the series. These books are stated as being able to read as standalones but I personally feel to get the full picture and a better understanding of this world these books should be read in order.
Prior to this book I had read and genuinely enjoyed all of the books in the series and very much anticipated this book/couple but I will say that I am left underwhelmed by this story and even though I managed to like it well enough to finish, I also expected a lot more from this story.
This book came with an authors note in the form of a trigger warning and I will say it did deliver on that. This book was much darker, grittier and intense compared to the previous books but still maintained the same elements created in the authors MC world with heightened crime, suspense & action.
This story took me longer to get into and the pacing felt off to me as did the writing. The relationship, attraction and obsession between these two was quickly established before moving more into the thiller/suspense side of the storyline, even though I loved this couple I just had a hard time connecting to the way their story played out. It didn't feel as smooth and seamless as some of the other books and had many moments that felt repetitive with words, phrases and actions. There was also an instance very early on that to me felt glossed over and not as impactful as it should've been which had me slightly confused timeline wise, if you've read the series you might understand what I mean but to me a moment I have been waiting for felt lackluster and I'm thinking the next release will help fill in the blanks. Maybe this is just me being particular and not being able to let things go but I would've much rather it have not been mentioned (which I know would've been hard timeline wise) or if this book had maybe come later (I'm trying to be vague so I don't spoil it).
Bea & Priest have been an antcipated couple for me and I'm glad I've finally read their story. It had that Sunshine/Grump dynamic that I love so much with added crazyiness, psychopathy & insanity. Their relationship as with their story was dark & gritty and included a few scenes some readers might feel uncomfortable reading but I had no problems with it, but keep that in mind if you are interested in this story.
As usual some of my favourite scenes involved the many characters surrounding the MC and how heavily involved they all are. This pack are truly some of my favourite characters ever written. Zeus was GOLD but Lou bothered me a little. I get where she was coming from with her protectiveness but I honestly felt she was hypocritical.
Priest's backstory and just his character in general was everything I wanted and more. I was always intrigued by him and this book made me fall even harder for the cold, closed off, loyal, protective psycho even more. Bea's naivete bothered me a little but she eventually grew on me. I did however want a little more build up between the two to begin with. The way in which their story was conveyed made me hard to connect to it. I'm not sure if it was the writing or my mood but I just felt like I was reading about these two but not feeling any of the strong emotions, like I felt indifferent to it.
Another slight issue I had with the story, and this is very much a me problem and not the book, but I instantly knew who the 'big bad' was the minute they were introduced and the more the story played out the more obvious it became. I managed to predicted quite a lot of the twists but there was maybe one or two that I missed but over all not much shocked me about this book.
Though this wasn't my favourite book in this story I still did enjoy it but it was missing a little something and I just expected more from it. I love the way Giana writes her stories and I'm hoping the rest of the series is as amazing as some of the previous books. My list of future Main Characters I'm hoping & waiting for next grows every book and I honestly wouldn't be mad if this series never ends and I would gladly read all the books.
Dead Man Walking, an all addictive dark MC romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Giana Darling, is available now!
The Irish enforcer for The Fallen Men MC is everything good girls are taught to stay away from.
Only, I found myself inexorably drawn into his dark gravitational pull. I wanted to know what it would be like to walk beside the human personification of Death and hold his hand, feel his kiss, and maybe even earn his undying love.
But Priest McKenna is older, cold as ice, and notoriously unfeeling.
So what are the odds that a dead man walking would come to life for little, insignificant me?
When a serial killer begins to target the women of Entrance, BC, and The Fallen suffers another terrible blow, Priest resolves to hunt down the killer himself.
And when the murderer sets his eyes on me?
My very own psychopath steps between me and certain death, thrusting us into an intimacy I prayed we would never recover from.
