Kayla is a feisty, sassy, sarcastic heroine who may be small but she packs a punch. She is also cautious and socially reserved in certain aspects of her life. Having been burnt in the past she doesn't trust easily and likes to keep people she doesn't know at bay.
Mason is a hot shot jock, typical playboy, funny, charismatic, can be charming & sweet at times. He has some trust issues of his own that adds some emotional baggage and he doesn't really let people all the way in.
After these two meet Mason can't help but be enamored by Kayla. They have that push & pull dynamic with some witty banter & sizzling chemistry. They also have some cute moments, some steam and a whole lot of new adult drama. The drama was a little too back and forward for my liking which felt slightly repetitive with certain moments not hitting that emotional payoff with me.
The story was hard to get into at the beginning as it had a lot charcters names thrown in from the very start with the female main character Kayla refering to most of them by there initial/s (ie G, JT, Q, T, E etc) I think I was just focusing on trying to remember who was who that it took me out of the story for a little bit but after a while that went away and I found myself enjoying it and flying through quickly.
Both Mason & Kayla had emotional trauma/baggage coming into the story and Mason was always trying to figure out why Kayla kept pushing him away or what she was holding back on but he hardly ever brought up to her that he had his own set of trust issues. This part of the story heavily focused on Kayla and what she had gone through so I'm hoping the more the story goes on we get more of Mason's back story. We got enough snipets in his inner monologue that paint a pretty good idea but I would much rather them fully explored & explained. Open and honest discussions are what I crave in romance books so I can't wait for these two to open up more to each other.
Its hard to judge a story that isnt complete yet as I have no idea how the rest is going to go & that cliffhanger ending involves something I personally dislike in romance novels so I'm a little nervous but I'm also excited to see where the rest of the story goes.
